Holiday at the beach in Tortoreto Lido

In Tortoreto progress, respect for the nature and for the historical-cultural heritage are merged together.

The urban development of the city has always been tought starting from the inhabitants' needs and of those of who come here on holiday every year. The proofs of this love for the city are visible everywhere. Wide bicycle paths, 20 km long, that connects Tortoreto to the close villages, 25.000 square meters of a public oasis, where to stop to relax, palms, playground plunged into the green and equipped for children, and much more...

Who loves the sea, will swim in total safeness, thanks to the quality of water and the Blue Flag.

All references that make Tortoreto one of the few villages that has the ISO 14001 certificate, gained in January 2004. In Tortoreto tourists are treated like citizens.

Sea and hill are the great mental reference points for who has already walked at the sunset along the beach and has experienced the Medieval atmosphere of the historical city center.

Between the sea and the hills

The sea today means "tourism" but in the past it has also been an historical resourse, thanks to the fishing. In the early 1900 there were the "lancette", then the "lampare" and, today, the "vongolare".

The hill, where are vineyards and olive groves, complete the landscape in Tortoreto, offering the chance to walk enjoying the pleasant summer breeze at the evening; it also hosts naturalistic oasis and wide green areas...

In Tortoreto is impossible to get bored...

The attention the tortoretani people pay to the tourists, their cheerfulness, their willingness, the events that are held night and day, make an holiday a relaxing and cheerful moment.

More than the beach and the surrounding hills, in summer it is possible to attend a lot of events, markets, exhibitions, and food festivals.

Amazing are also the fireworks in the Middle of August, that end the holy procession devoted to the Virgin Mary: a proof of faith, every year lived by thousand of people on the beach.

Every evening there ae different scenarios, and one can choose among the marine and typical cooking of the restaurants, going to the disco after have had dinner with a delicious pizza or live music at the bathing resorts.

The historical city center of Tortoreto is made of three different areas: Torrevecchia, Terranova and the Old Village. Torravecchia is the ancient and the highest part of the city and it hosts the Castle, the Clock Tower, the Agostiniano Monastery and the Church of Saint Agostino.

Terranova, connected to Torravecchia and built circa in the 1100 preserves the Church of the Misericordia, where can be appreciated the frescos of the painter of the Reinassence Giacomo Bonfini and the Church of Saint Nicola di Bari, that hosts a totally restored pipe organ dated back to 1800.

The Old Village, that includes the panoramic viewpoint, is the less ancient part of the city, it has been built in 1400, and hosts the Church of the Madonna del Carmine, devoted to San Rocco "fuori le mura".

Really important is also the "Fortellezza", where archeological excavations have brought back to light the presence of prehistorical human establishments, and the remains of a Mammoth and a primordial ox.
